Today, we’re going to be talking all about having a morning hit list.

I’m going to tell you all about what it is. Why I use it and why? I think you should have one as well.

Morning Hit List Productivity Hack

What do you do when you sit down at your desk in the morning?

First thing in the morning… you get your coffee, your workout is done, you get the kids off to school and then you sit down to work.

Do you ever sit down and stare off into space, or maybe check a bunch of social media that you didn’t mean to.

Not me. Never. Haha!

I know a lot of people say that deep  work. Is really the place to begin at the beginning of your day. But this has never, ever worked for me. It’s hard for me to get into a deep work space. Until I know that my everyday tasks of writing my business are checked off.

So I started running my morning with a hit list.

What does a morning hit-list?

Am I trying to kill my snoring husband that kept me up last night?

Or maybe my teenagers that left out the milk again?

I know when you think of hit list, obviously that’s something that comes to mind. Thank you. Crime shows and crime podcasts.

But no, I’m not talking about that kind of hit list.

What I am talking about is all of those daily tasks that I need to accomplish to run my business the most effective way.

Once all those tasks are cleared off.

That’s when I’m able to focus on the more important things. So I would encourage you if you have a hard time starting your day not being sure of what to jump into… When you sit down at your desk to try out this morning, hit list.

Benefits Of A Morning Business Task List

I found that having a morning hitlist takes out the overwhelm of sitting down at my computer.

It directs my first steps forward.

Having a morning task list is like having a boss.

A boss that says here’s where to go next to help you to be able to reach your goals.

As digital entrepreneurs, we don’t have bosses.

We don’t have somebody telling us every day the 10 things to do next. And so, I’ve had to find ways after doing this for 15 years to develop my own way to kind of boss myself around a little.

This is one of the ways I do that.

How To Create A Morning List

To create your own winning morning hit list:

Think through all of the everyday tasks that need to happen for your goals to be met and for your business to move forward.

Create the list by taking out a pen and piece of paper and write down all of the things that your own list should include. Depending on what your business is, this could be things like:

  • customer service
  • posting content
  • responding to advertisement requests
  • engaging with your audience
  • checking daily email
  • or whatever else is on your list of things that just has to be done every day

If one of your goals is social media growth. An item on your list might be posting daily content, or engaging with other people that are in your niche.

Short & Sweet Tasks

The whole idea behind a hit list is that it’s supposed to be a short sprint to get your day going.

So this wouldn’t necessarily include things like batching out content, or creating a new reel, but more of the short and sweet kind of daily tasks that are going to keep moving you forward.

Blogger Hit Lists

If you’re a blogger who has a post going live then your hit list might include any post production tasks that you’re responsible for. Things like internally linking, pinning new content, uploading information into your organization system, and anything else that needs to be done on a daily basis.

Ecommerce Hit Lists

If you have a product based business, this might look like looking at your sales numbers and inventory levels.

Adjusting your ad numbers every day. And anything else that you really need to make sure that you’re monitoring or getting done on a daily basis.

My morning list always includes checking all of our current blogs to ensure that scheduled content has gone live. That everything is running smoothly and none of the sites are down and we’re not having any major emergencies.

The last thing on my morning hit list is always, to take a moment to look over my day and prepare for the deeper work to come.

This is a really great way to start your day and set a strong daily intention.

After my hit-list is done. I take a quick break for breakfast and I work out before I get into the more focused work of the day.

Feeling Accomplished From The Start

No matter what you put on your own hit list, it can be a great way to wake up and quickly feel accomplished in your business.

And we all know… As digital entrepreneurs that that feeling of accomplishment is one of the best motivators to continue working hard.

Giving ourselves that little dopamine hit at the beginning of the day makes us feel like we are moving forward.

It’s only going to help us to work better and stronger as the day goes on.

How I Use My Hit List

Once I have my morning hit list, I need to decide what to do with it.

How is this list actually going to help me on a day to day basis?

I like to have mine written out on a five by seven piece of paper.

AND PUT THE LIST SOMEWHERE WHERE IT CAN BE SEEN

You can tape it up onto the computer.

I like to put mine in my planner.

It goes right over the next day.

Every time I turn my planner page it’s right on top of the next day. I see it first thing and I go through and just check off that list.

I let it boss me around while I am, getting into the groove of working for the day.

Wherever you put your own morning hit list, just make sure you can actually see it because if you can’t see your hit list than you’re going to make it once and just totally forget about it.

Make sure you keep it in front of you on a daily basis and tell me how it’s working for you.

I would love to know if it’s helping you to be more productive and helping you to get a better focused work time as you go throughout your day.

Happy planning!
